Why We Need The ACA

The ACA (Affordable Care Act) is being rolled out today, government shut down or not. I've been posting a lot of opinions and comments online about my annoyance in regards to the shut down. I have decided to throw my flag up with #teamobamacare and began commenting on the fact that it is happening. DEAL WITH IT.

So what am I hearing on the internet? Well, I am from southern Louisiana and many of my representatives voted for the repealing of the ACA. In turn, I know many VOCAL citizens who view the ACA as a socialist idea put in place by Congress and the Democrats. Conspiracy theories are rampant, unfortunately though there is no one speaking out against it and it becomes the norm. I think people are confused on what the ACA means to the public. For me, I'm going to list a few things for why I support it.

Why I Support the ACA:

1. I am 24 years old and work 4 part time jobs. I do not work enough hours with any of my jobs to get full time and thus the benefits given to full time. No one was hiring full time and I had bills to pay, so I took what I can get. ACA means I can have some sort of health care.

2. A good friend in Louisiana was diagnosed with an odd disease that resulted in her getting a hp replacement at the age of 22. She has a pre-existing condition and no one will cover her. ACA gives her on option.

3. Another good friend was unexpectantly diagnosed with renial kidney disease, meaning she has failing kidneys. She is on hemo-dialysis and will need a new kidney. If the ACA was in place before October 1st maybe she wouldn't be over $80,000 in debt to the hospitals we had to go to for emergency room visits when she was violently ill from kidney failure. Or maybe she could have afforded to even visit a doctor to see what was wrong.

4. For all the people like my friend who have to wait till they are violently ill and on a deathbed to go to the doctor because they can't afford a regular visit.

5. For all the people living in cancer ally of Louisiana who have treatable cancers but will eventually die from cancer because they can't afford the screenings.

These are only some of the reasons why I support the ACA, Obama Care. We live in a country, no actually a world, where we deem basically if you should live based on how much you earn. It doesn't matter if you are trying and constantly being pushed down. It must be your fault for not getting a full time job when none are available. It is your fault your child is deathly sick because you live in an impoverished neighborhood that is near a chemical refinery and you couldn't afford anywhere else to go and couldn't bring your kid to the doctor because you don't have insurance.

Things happen. Yes, the ACA is not the best option, but lets face it. IT IS AN OPTION. And honestly, when you have nothing, an option seems like a god sent.

Hulk Out.
